BoostPilot

Standalone boost controller · ESP32-S3 · configured over Bluetooth

A boost controller that needs no dash and no laptop: it reads the engine over CAN or its own inputs, drives the wastegate solenoid or an electronic wastegate, and everything about it — setup, live data, logging, firmware updates and activation — is done from a phone in its own app.

Firmware—

The app works in Chrome or Edge (Web Bluetooth). On iOS use the Bluefy browser. It installs to the home screen and works offline.

What it does

Closed-loop boost control

PID against a target table, with spool and overboost phases. Supports membrane, vacuum and electronic actuators — including sub-atmospheric targets.

Electronic wastegate

Drives an EWG through a BTS7960 H-bridge: a position PID cascaded under the boost PID, with staged autotune.

Local inputs and outputs

Its own analog and pulse inputs with signal roles and failover, plus PWM outputs. CAN can be switched off entirely — the controller runs standalone.

Four boost maps

Four switchable target maps — street, track, wet, valet — flipped with one tap from the app on any page.

Ignition trim for MS3

A retard table sent to the Megasquirt MS3 as a standard SpkAdj command — pull timing as boost rises without touching the main tune.

App over Bluetooth

Live data strips, logging with CSV export and markers, firmware updates over the air, activation — all from a phone, no cable.

Hardware

  • ESP32-S3 Zero module — small enough to live behind the dash.
  • External CAN transceiver required for CAN operation (the controller also runs with CAN disabled, on local inputs alone).
  • WS2812 status LED: CAN health and activation state at a glance.
  • Outputs: PWM for a boost solenoid, BTS7960 H-bridge for an electronic wastegate.

Flash over USB

A blank board is flashed once over USB, straight from this page — no IDE, no drivers beyond the browser. After that, updates arrive over Bluetooth in the app.

Boards running firmware older than 1.1.0 must take this USB path once: the partition layout changed to make OTA possible, and OTA itself cannot rewrite it. Settings survive the update.

Web Serial is not supported in this browser. Use Chrome or Edge on a desktop.

Activation

Without activation the controller runs boost for 60 seconds after each power-on, then switches the output off. Activation is done in the app with a promo code; the key is stored in the device and survives a factory reset.

  1. 1Flash the board and connect to it from the app over Bluetooth.
  2. 2Get a promo code — it comes with the device, or through the support chat.
  3. 3Enter the code on the app's System page. Done — the license is permanent for this board.
